LASIK, laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis is a safe, widely performed procedure that corrects vision by gently reshaping the cornea, the clear front surface of your eye. When the cornea is reshaped, light focuses properly onto the retina, producing clearer, sharper vision.

When to Contact Your LASIK Surgeon
As your eyes heal, mild dryness, glare or halos, light sensitivity, and fluctuating vision are normal and usually fade on their own. But some symptoms need prompt attention contact your surgeon right away if you have severe or worsening eye pain, a sudden decrease in vision, significant redness, or any discharge. Your follow-up visits let our team monitor healing and adjust your care.

Yes, but contacts can temporarily change your corneal shape, which affects pre-operative measurements. We typically ask patients to stop soft lenses for one to two weeks before their consultation; rigid gas-permeable lenses may require longer. This ensures your measurements reflect your eye's true natural shape for a precise treatment.
Stability generally means your glasses or contact prescription has not changed significantly for at least one year. We review your prescription history at your consultation. If it has been fluctuating, your surgeon may recommend waiting until it levels off, since treating a changing prescription can affect how long your results last.
The main difference is how the corneal surface is prepared. LASIK creates a thin flap, while PRK removes the outer surface cells entirely and does not create a flap. PRK often has a slightly longer initial recovery but is a strong option for thinner or flatter corneas. Both use the same excimer laser, and long-term outcomes are similar.
LASIK corrects distance, intermediate, or near vision based on your plan, but it does not prevent presbyopia — the gradual loss of up-close focus that affects most people in their 40s and beyond. If you are in that age range, your surgeon will set realistic expectations and may discuss options such as monovision LASIK.
If your vision does not fully reach its target after healing, an enhancement procedure may be possible once your eyes have stabilized, typically after several months. Our surgeons evaluate each situation individually, considering your corneal thickness and other factors before recommending any additional treatment.
In most cases, yes. Treating both eyes on the same day is standard practice and offers the convenience of a single procedure and recovery period. Your surgeon confirms this as part of your care plan, and will let you know in advance if there is any clinical reason to treat your eyes separately.
