NewView Eye Center opened on November 15, 1999, founded by Dr. Jacqueline D. Griffiths, a native Washingtonian and Yale-educated, University of Michigan-trained ophthalmologist who completed her ophthalmology residency at Georgetown University Medical Center. A diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology and a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, Dr. Griffiths took part in the CRS-USA clinical trials that led to FDA approval of LASIK, and she has served as a board examiner for new ophthalmology graduates. A recurring honoree on the Washingtonian and Castle Connolly Top Doctors lists, she brought that same standard of excellence to the practice she built: physician-led, patient first.

As laser eye centers multiplied across the DC metro area, Dr. Griffiths took a different approach. NewView was designed for patients who wanted to see the same doctor at every visit and receive care tailored to their individual needs. Over three decades in practice, she has personally performed thousands of vision correction and cataract procedures, and has held leadership roles across the region, including Ophthalmology Section Chief at Reston Hospital Center.

Over time, the practice grew into a full-service ophthalmology center, adding cataract surgery, glaucoma management, cornea care, medical aesthetics, and laser floater removal alongside its refractive surgery roots. In 2011, NewView Optical opened in Reston, offering designer frames and lenses for the whole family. In 2023, Dr. Claiborne M. Callahan joined the practice, a Leesburg native and University of Virginia-trained surgeon who performs cataract, laser, glaucoma, and eyelid surgery.

Today, NewView serves patients from two Northern Virginia locations and has been recognized among the Top 50 Ophthalmology Practices in the country. The same commitment that shaped the practice in 1999 guides every appointment, procedure, and interaction today.
